We’re Taking the Plunge – Our Backpacking Trip to South and Central America

Today we want to cut right to the chase. We believe in the old saying that actions speak louder than words. This is exactly why we tell stories of Degenerates. These stories have power behind them because an action took place – someone became uncomfortable enough to take leap of faith and do something that may seem a little crazy. They followed their fears and allowed those fears to transform their lives. Now it’s our turn to do the same.

Within less than a year of starting this community, we have both left what we once thought of as dream jobs, packed up our belongings, moved home, had a few meltdowns along the way (okay, maybe more than a few..) – and now we’re about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

We have struggled with how we were going to announce this – thinking about all the naysayers we have come across or how it will look to some friends and family. However, today we are laying it all out on the line.

In one week, we will be backpacking through South and Central America – for four months.

We know, you probably think we’re crazy. And we agree with you. We’re crazy enough to ask, “Why not?” We’re crazy enough to not only have a dream but to take small actions each day to work towards it. We’re crazy enough to think that any person reading this can do the same.

Everyone’s dream is different. It’s about figuring out what your dream is and making it happen. You may have heard this idea before, but it’s not just about hearing – it’s about doing. You have to want it. You have want it badly enough to face all of your fears head on and bring them along for the ride.

Which is exactly why we are taking this plunge.

Throughout this journey, we’ve faced many fears: How are we going to save enough money? How are we going to leave a secure, well-paying job? How are we going to tell our friends and family? What will others think? Will they understand? How are we going to move back home? Are we really going to spend the money we just spent the last 2 years saving up for? What are we going to do when we get back? And the fear list goes on..

But you know what? One day we woke up and decided not to let our fears define us. We knew if we looked back at the end of our lives and didn’t live out this dream, then we wouldn’t be happy. It wouldn’t matter how much money we had saved or how safe our decisions were – we would still be left with that question of “What if?”

So now we’re on a mission to help others ask that same question.

We know the quarter-life crisis is universal, but how it manifests itself differs from person to person. For the next four months, we will be traveling to South and Central America, interviewing Millennials and collecting stories about their fears.

Our mission is to disrupt the quarter-life crisis by creating a world-wide community focused on fears. We all have fears – that’s not the problem. The problem is when we let them control our lives. We want to shift the mindset around fears from something you should bury or ignore to something you should embrace and share.

We’re taking on this journey to share our fears with you. To share the fears of Millennials all across the globe and show how those fears can be just the fuel you need to completely transform your life.

Because when you get right down to it, we are firm believers that everything you want is on the other side of fear.

everything you want is on the other side of fear
